Wing back chair re-vamp
Hello all! This is Megan. My first post is going to be of my favorite chair! This won't be a DIY because I did not think to take pics during the process... Sorry!
The Chair was given to me by a dear friend. It had a full pleated skirt covering its beautiful legs and a little bit of wear and tear. ;) I loved the shape of it however and saw its potential. It took me a few months to find the perfect fabric but one day I came across this apple green and white romantic pattern at Hobby Lobby. I immediately fell in love! Lots of love sweat and tears went into making this transformation. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
First I had to strip off the old furniture with out tearing it since it was going to be my pattern for the new cover. This was extremely frustrating. I did not have an upholstery staple remover so I tried to use a butter knife and pliers. Looking back I would seriously just go and buy the darn staple remover! Then I started to cut and staple on the fabric to the chair along with the chocolate brown rope detail, also harder than it looks. But eventually I did it and made my way to the most difficult part. The cushion!
Oh how that cushion haunts me! Until now no sewing was required... I thought this part would be the easiest. How hard would it be to sew in a straight line right? I do this all the time! WRONG! you have to sew the top part to the rope and then to the bottom while keeping it all in the perfect position because if you are off by even the slightest degree the cushion looks so so very lopsided. Trust me I tried! You also have to sew on the closing/zipper. Which twice I sewed it on the wrong side :(. So after about the 5 time of having to seam rip my cushion I decided to enlist some professional help... I called up my mom.
My mother is one of the most amazing and inspiring women I have ever met. She can do it all. Literally. This was obviously my first time sewing a cushion, but she, on the other hand, can make a couch from scratch! So she flew up from AZ to TX and helped me with the chair. It was in tragic shape apparently, so she taught me a few tricks that I so wish I would have known before I started this whole adventure. But hey at least I know now for next time!
Eventually after she too sewed the zipper on the wrong side like I did we got the cushion finished. We did change from a zipper closure to a Velcro one because the zipper was just being stubborn.
Well I hope you liked the post! Comments are always welcome, and if you have any questions we will try our best to answer them quickly.
